Sharing bite size pieces of life abroad and motherhood adventures

Hi! I’m Riley, I have a love for all things culture, travel, and healthy living. I’m a new mom to my 5 month daughter, and currently reside in Beijing, China with my husband! Expat Baby Diaries is created for the intention to show little pieces of what life is like living as an expat, and the adventures of motherhood along the way! Welcome, I hope it makes you smile!

Hauck Runner 3!

Morning friends! Yesterday was an exciting day- I purchased a running stroller. I’m almost 6 months postpartum, and the itch to run has been getting stronger and stronger. The daily routine walks with Sophia are nice, but my body feels energetic and capable to move a little quicker! 15 months later, my body feels strong and ready.

I choose to buy the Hauck Runner 3. This is a new- to- me German company, but I learned Hauck is anything but new. It’s been around for over 100 years! I find that remarkable. They specializes in all things baby/kids. It really felt like Christmas morning when it arrived. Who doesn’t love to unbox when they are anticipating something they’ve been waiting for.

I needed something that had all the safety features (hand break, fixed or moveable front wheel, 5- point safety belt, suspension wheels) and I didn’t want it to break the bank. I doubted myself if I would be all in with running or if it would just be a once a week thing, so I really didn’t feel good about spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a running stroller. I also wanted one that I could just walk with Sophia  that didn’t feel huge and bulky. From the first glance, we could tell the materials were great and they set up would be so easy. My husband put it together for me and it took him a total of 5 minutes. After running up and down the apartment hallway to make sure it was sturdy, it was time to take Sophia for a spin! That poor girl, it was her first time not facing me in a stroller, but she took it like a champ! I think she actually enjoyed looking at everyone else and everything green at the park!

The run was great. It was so comfortable and lightweight. I only ran with one hand which surprised me! Sophia was in the upright position until she fell asleep and then I reclined her  little sleeping self. Maybe that tells you just how slow my running pace is, hah! The reclinable seat is my favorite features on the stroller. It worked out so well as able to bring her upstairs after the run and keep her reclined to finish out her nap without waking her up! Win Win! I ran 5k and it felt so natural and easy to get used to especially for someone who didn’t know what to expect. I give it a 10 for someone who just runs for fun, doesn’t have a lot of space, and wants a safe, lightweight, comfortable stroller, it’s the way to go.

Besides the excitement of getting a new baby gift, it was so great to get outside, in the sunshine and do something positive before the distractions of the day hit. I’m with Sophia all day and to start my day with something I love to do, but involve her in it felt so good. I had the realization, wow, last time I ran I was a different person living such a different reality. Now I’m running, in a foreign country, with my daughter. How things can change in 15 months! It made me really appreciative of this current reality and makes me want to stay more present in my day to day because I know this time is short. It’s amazing what just a short exercise and getting a little tine outside can do for your perspective!

I’m curious, what is a small thing you have done this week that’s made you happier? What does self care look like to you?
